Overlooking the Flint Hills region of eastern Kansas, this residence aims to feel right at home in the vast prairie landscape. Utilizing an old family farmhouse that was constructed of local limestone, we were tasked with designing a new home to salvage and rebuild the stone structure on a new foundation a few miles away. New additions appear to carefully engage the stone farmhouse that accommodate the expanded program needs of a more modern family lifestyle. Throughout the interior of the home, a warm, soft material palette makes for an inviting and cozy overall aesthetic. A tunnel to the backyard welcomes visitors to enjoy the property and entertaining spaces beyond, which feature a pool, pool house and sport court.
