Perched on a ravine near Lake Michigan, this modest, single-family residence is designed for Empty Nesters. The front facade appears private from the street, while the rear opens up and embraces the ravine with an expanse of floor-to-ceiling glazing. The line between interior and exterior is blurred with operable glass walls, outdoor living rooms and abundant natural light and ventilation. The interior is an open-plan concept, with family and entertaining areas and the Master Suite located on the first floor, while remaining bedroom suites are located on the second floor. The design is modern in massing, but is context-appropriate with its use of traditional natural building materials.
