This modern ski house is located in Northern Michigan on the site of a former pine plantation. A striking grid of red pines occupies a portion of the site and preserving as many trees as possible was critical. On the interior, the client wanted enough room for their young family and guests. The main volume of the house contains a double height living space while bedrooms are located in the wing. Traditional gable forms and exterior board siding are balanced by crisp, unfussy details and minimalist design to keep the whole cozy and fresh. Red pine boards reclaimed from trees removed on site were used to clad the side entry elevation.
